CAMERA JAPAN Festival #16

Making A Wish

We created graphics for CAMERA JAPAN Festival 2021. The graphic featured Daruma doll.
In Japanese tradition, individuals write a Kanji character representing their wish and fill in one eye of the Daruma doll. As their wish is fulfilled, they complete the doll by filling in the other eye.

We carefully selected the character 願 (がん・gan), meaning 'to wish' and 'to hope'. Combining this character with the cyber-punk style illustration of the Daruma doll, we aimed to highlight Japan's renowned expertise in robotic technologies.

Our wish was for the global COVID-19 situation to be effectively controlled, enabling people to regain their normal lives. We were overjoyed when our wish became a reality, marked by the abandonment of the 'zero covid' policy in China towards the end of 2022.

The illustration and graphic design was by our one and only Steve Zhang, the design director of YAS! CREATIVES.
